Yesterday we lost an important leader in the fight to eradicate breast cancer—United States Representative John Murtha of Pennsylvania. In Congress, Representative Murtha was well-known for his leadership on defense issues but he also cared deeply about women’s health and understood the importance of supporting good science. Representative Murtha fought to ensure and protect innovative research programs that are making a real difference in moving toward an end to breast cancer. On behalf of the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC), we express our sincere gratitude to Representative Murtha for his leadership and mourn the loss of one of our soldiers who fought to support efforts on behalf of all women. We wish to express our deepest condolences to the Murtha family and want them to know that we treasure and celebrate his leadership on Capitol Hill on behalf of women’s lives.
National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) is dedicated to ending breast cancer through the power of grassroots action and advocacy. NBCC increases funding for breast cancer research; monitors how those funds are spent; expands access to quality health care for all; and ensures that trained advocates influence all decision making that impacts breast cancer.
