Truth #8

While breast cancer mortality
has gone down in recent years,
too many women still
die
of the disease each year.

In 1999, the breast cancer death rate for all women was 26.6 per 100,000 persons; the rate fell to 22.8 in 2007. However, looking at individual deaths, there were 41,144 deaths from breast cancer in 1999, compared to 40,598 in 2007. Breast cancer remains the third leading cause of death for women, behind heart disease and lung cancer. Read NBCC’s Progress Report: Ending Breast Cancer: A Baseline Status Report to learn more.
