Grassroots Action Needed for DOD BCRP

Urgent Action!  Urgent Action!  Urgent Action!
Urge your Representatives to Support the
 DOD Breast Cancer Research Program

Deadline for Letter Signing: March 13th

It is time to get signatures on this year’s House of Representatives letter in support of funding for the Department of Defense (DOD) peer-reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP). The deadline for your Representatives to sign is Tuesday, March 13th. Our grassroots supporters must take immediate action to urge their Representatives to sign the letter!

1.) Contact your Representatives and ask them to sign the DOD breast cancer research letter. This is the list of who signed last year; if your Representative(s) are on the list, thank them and ask them to sign again. If your Representatives are not on the list, ask them to sign this year. They have all received a "Dear Colleague" letter asking them to sign on from Representatives King (R NY) McGovern (D MA), Costello (R PA) and Hastings (D FL) but they must hear from you and your network!!

Your message to your Representative is:

I urge you to show your support for ending breast cancer by signing the letter to Defense Appropriations Subcommittee Chair Granger and Ranking Member Visclosky calling for $150 million for the DOD peer-reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program for FY 2019.

2.) If your Representative agrees to sign the letter, her/his staff should email one of the following staffers of the letter sponsors to make it happen:

Katrina Martell in Representative Hastings’ office -
Katrina.Martell@mail.house.gov
Elle Ciapciak in Representative Costello’s office - Elle.Ciapciak@mail.house.gov

Also Email us at NBCC and let us know that your Representative has agreed to sign the letter or if you have any questions.

3.) Read the Background:  In order to maintain funding for the DOD BCRP, money must be appropriated by Congress. The first step in this process is for the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee to appropriate funding. Representatives King (R-NY), McGovern (D-MA), Costello (R-PA) and Hastings (D-FL) are circulating the Dear Colleague Letter, asking House Members to sign the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee leadership letter, supporting funding for the DOD BCRP.

4.) It is a very busy and hectic time on Capitol Hill and Members are being flooded with calls on many different issues. You and all members of your networks
need to contact your Representatives and urge them to show their support for ending breast cancer by signing the letter. This listing identifies the Representatives who signed last year’s letter and they all should be contacted and urged to sign again. These are the key targets from your state. If there is no one listed from your state, you and your networks should reach out to all your Representatives.

5.) The action you are taking will let your Representatives know how important the DOD BCRP is to breast cancer research.
If a Representative has questions you can’t answer, let us know and we’ll follow-up.

Thank you for taking action today!
