Tell Your Senators to Save the DOD BCRP!

Our grassroots network is doing an outstanding job gaining cosponsors in support of the Durbin-Blunt NDAA Medical Research Amendment #592. A total of 35 Senators have cosponsored to date. But there is more work to do and now that the Senate has recessed for the rest of August, we need your state/local activism!

Background: Senator McCain introduced S. 1519, the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2018—and again he has included several provisions that are problematic for the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program (DOD BCRP) and all Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRPs).

Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Roy Blunt (R-MO), have introduced this amendment, the Durbin-Blunt NDAA Medical Research Amendment #592, to repeal the problematic language.

Action Needed: Throughout this recess, we need you to keep pressuring your Senators if they have not yet done so to cosponsor Amendment # 592 and to support it when it comes to the floor for a vote. Look for opportunities to see your Senators at town halls and other public events in your state and deliver this message:

Senator______, I urge you to save the vitally important Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program by cosponsoring the Durbin-Blunt NDAA Medical Research Amendment #592 and supporting the amendment when it comes to the floor for a vote. Will you support Amendment #592 to save the Breast Cancer Research Program and other Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs?

If your Senator says she/he will cosponsor Amendment #592, let us know right away by replying to this email.  As of now, these Senators have cosponsored the amendment. Click here to find your Senators if you don’t find your Senators on the list.

Thank you for this important advocacy to save the DOD BCRP!
