National Breast Cancer Coalition

URGENT UPDATE ON DOD BCRP!

You may have already heard that the Senate passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for FY 2018. Although your advocacy helped get 53 Senators to cosponsor the Durbin/Blunt amendment it did not get a vote and NDAA version that passed unfortunately included the language that would destroy the DOD BCRP and all congressionally directed medical research programs.

This is by far the most serious threat to the DOD Breast Cancer Research Program and IF THE HARMFUL LANGUAGE IS NOT REMOVED, IT WOULD MEAN THE END OF THIS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT BREAST CANCER RESEARCH PROGRAM.

What happens next? The NDAA bill that passed the House does NOT include the harmful language.  There are many other differences between the two versions of the bill and the Senate and House now conference to work out those differences and agree on a final version. WE WILL ASK YOU TO ACT VERY SOON! In the meantime, look over the list of the House Armed Services Committee and let us know if you have a relationship with any of them. The conference will be our last chance to get the research-killing provisions removed from the bill!

Action Needed: Review this listing of House Armed Services Committee members and let us know if you have relationships. Prepare your networks to act as soon as we release an action alert.

Thank you.
