Project LEAD Institute 2017

La Jolla, CA at the Estancia La Jolla Hotel 

The Project LEAD® Institute is a six-day intensive science course for breast cancer advocates covering the basics of cancer biology, genetics, epidemiology, research design and advocacy. The course provides a foundation of scientific knowledge upon which participants can strengthen and empower themselves as activists. Taught by renowned research faculty, this is a unique opportunity for those interested in learning more about working as an NBCC research advocate.

Tuition is free to NBCC members who are accepted to the course, and includes all workshop materials and meals. Applicants can also apply for need-based scholarships to assist with lodging and travel expenses. Accepted participants must attend the entire course.


The course will take place at the Estancia Hotel in La Jolla, CA. Accepted attendees not seeking a scholarship will be able to make hotel reservations at the Estancia La Jolla Hotel at the special group rate of $229 per night plus taxes.


Applications are being accepted through 5:00 PM EST April, 18, 2017

There are two parts to the Project LEAD® Institute application:

Part One: Complete the application online. *We suggest that you download a PDF of the application to perpare your answers in advance. Click here to access the PDF. You cannot save your work and return to the application, so please allow enough time to finish the application as some of the questions may take time to answer. 

Part Two: The Project LEAD® Institute application requires 2 letters of reference. Click here to access and download the reference letter templates. Letters of reference from NBCC associated advocates (board members, team leaders, field coordinators, LEAD graduates, etc) will be given added consideration to your application. Please collect your letters of reference and send one email with both letters attached and your name in the subject line to following the template layout. All references received not in template layout will delay your application.

We must receive your completed online application and two letter of reference on the NBCC template by 5:00 PM EST on April 18, 2017 to be considered for the Project LEAD® Institute.
