Project LEAD Institute 2019

The Project LEAD® Institute is a six-day intensive science course designed for the lay public to train breast cancer advocates. The course covers the basics of cancer biology, genetics, epidemiology, research design and advocacy, and provides a foundation of scientific knowledge upon which participants can strengthen and empower themselves as activists. Taught by renowned research faculty, this is a unique opportunity for those interested in learning more about working as an NBCC research advocate.

Applicants must be members of NBCC who are:

  • Currently involved in the activities of a breast cancer organization
  • Interested in learning the scientific language and concepts of breast cancer to share with their community
  • Motivated to take a seat at the tables where important breast cancer decisions are made
  • Dedicated to supporting Breast Cancer Deadline 2020

Tuition is free to NBCC members who are accepted to the course, and includes all workshop materials and meals. Applicants can also apply for need-based scholarships to assist with lodging and travel expenses. Accepted participants must attend the entire course and have access to a laptop or tablet.

In addition to the application form, applicants must submit two letters of recommendation to projectlead@breastcancerdeadline2020.org. Letters must be submitted on this template. Applications wil not be considered complete until all pieces are recieved.

This year, we will be implementing a rolling admissions process, so please submit your application as soon as possible. Notifications of acceptance will be made monthly, beginning in January 2019. All applicants will receive a final decision no later than June 1st.
